The presentation of the 2006 IAPH "Hoax of the year Award" *1

Saturday, September 15th, 2007 in Boston Massachusetts

On behalf of the IAPH, Alan Abel presents the 2006

"Hoax of the Year Award" to Sir John Hargrave

at the September 15th banquet in his honor.

The award recognizes Sir John's numerous pranks

(Not the least of which was hitting on the Queen of England to knight him.) *2

*2 After getting absolutely nowhere with the Queen's people

who assured Hargrave that, just wanting to be knighted wasn't enough,
he went to a U.S. court and had his name legally changed to 'Sir' John Hargrave.

It should be noted that the judge recognized Hargrave and confronted him with,
"Didn't I change your name once before?" To which Hargrave replied,
"Yes, but that change involved something else and it is not part of this request."
Obviously that was a sufficient explanation to satifsy the judge, because
he granted the change, and John Hargrave walked out: Sir John Hargrave.
