Cliff Pickover's Internet Encyclopedia of Hoaxes
Hoaxes perpetuated in the name of science come in various flavors.
There is the April's fool joke or urban legend in which someone
tells a funny tale about alligators living in sewers. On the other hand,
a more serious hoax can destroy an entire line of scholarship
or provide an ineffective medical "cure" until the deceit comes to light.

Medicine Shows
While the old Medicine Shows fall loosely into the "Hoax" category,
they were actually more of a "Con." Regardless, Medicine Shows
do fit very well into the IAPH "Interesting Links" category. You need
"Real Player" or "Quick Time Player" to view this streaming video.

Pyramid Schemes
As with "Medicine Shows" (above) Multi-level Marketing Schemes,
aka: Pyramid Schemes, are more of a con than a hoax or a prank,
but they do fit very well into the IAPH "Interesting Links" category
because, ironically, it is not just the customer that is being conned.
People at nearly every level of the pyramid are also being conned.
"Going Great White" is a very funny independent film in the style of
"Best In Show." It is a mock-umentary of the MLM Pyramid concept.
